Challenge SoftballUpdated Thursday April 4, 2019 by Waxhaw Girls Softball.
WAA Girls Softball as an affilite association with Char Meck Softball League will offer Challenge Softball at Waxhaw. It's purpose is to to provide the player an opportunity to excel in the fundamentals of softball in a more competitive environment.
Challenge Softball is for players that show an increased interest or excel in mechanics and fundamentals of softball. Challenge Softball will provide the advanced level players the opportunity to improve their skills through more competitive practices and competition.
For each division, WAA will sponsor Challenge Teams. There may be a Challenge Team for each division or no Challenge Team for each division, depending on the number of interested players and the number of volunteer coaches to participate. Each Division will hold tryouts that are separate from Recreational Softball Evaluations. Challenge Teams will hold separate practices and play extra games against other Char Meck Girls Softball Challenge Teams or may choose to enter local tournaments at the Team's expense. Players MUST be an active player on a WAA Girls Softball Roster for the regular season in order to tryout and be placed on a roster for a Challenge Team.
Challenge Softball is a competitive program designed for the advanced player. All Players interested MUST tryout and not everyone makes a team. You can only tryout for the Challenge Team within the Division you are registered in for Spring or Fall Season. A Player playing in 10U regular season cannot tryout for 13U. In the event there are not enough players at WAA for a Challenge Team in a division, players that are interested could still play in the Char Meck Challenge League with a Metro Team. Tryouts would be held with other girls from various associations across the Char Meck Softball divisions to form a team.
The cost of Challenge Softball is separate from Recreational Softball and is an extra expense to the families participating. Costs will be based on the number of players per team. Costs per player includes insurance and tournament entry fees. This does not include any travel expenses incurred by the team or gate fees at each tournament. Payment is expected in full within two weeks after the team has been announced. Financial aid for Challenge Softball is not available through WAA since this is considered as extra softball.
Challenge Softball Tryouts TBD. They will take place after Recreational Softball Teams have formed. Challenge teams will begin practice after regular season practices have begun and the Challenge Season will end at the same time Recreational Softball Season concludes.
Please keep in mind WAA Recreational Softball will come first and have priority over all Challenge Teams.
